CBD Flower: 5 Tips to Spot Good Quality Buds

An important question we keep being asked: how can you actually recognise good CBD flowers? Given the number of shops, products and strains currently flooding the market, it is a legitimate question. For customers, it is not always easy to tell whether CBD flowers are of high quality or not. That is why we have put together a simple list for you that you can use to judge the quality of CBD flowers.

    Natural smell

One of the most important characteristics is certainly the smell, because you don’t usually carry a microscope around with you when shopping for CBD flowers. Cannabis flowers should smell as natural as possible. Flowers are often advertised as having a certain flavour, such as strawberry or pineapple. However, if the smell is too intense or almost goes in the direction of – to put it in layman’s terms 😉 – toilet block, it is very likely that the flowers have been treated.

    Fresh smell

Because the smell is so important, it appears twice on this list. If the flowers do not smell fresh but musty, this indicates poor storage. If the smell is not very intense, then they are either old flowers or flowers that were not grown under the best conditions. A little tip: we have a small smelling bar in our shop where you are welcome to sniff your way through.

    Colour

What does the colour of a cannabis flower mean? A good question! In principle, cannabis flowers can take on all kinds of colours: green, red, purple or yellow. Flowers are often named after their colour, too. In fact, the colour does not necessarily say much about the quality, but rather about the strain & growing conditions. Some flowers change their colour depending on their age, the pH value of their environment or the time of harvest. However, if you have the feeling that the colour looks washed out or that several flowers of the same strain have very different colours, you should perhaps become a little sceptical. It could be a sign that the flowers have been “washed”.¹

    Heavy metals & pesticides

As with any product that is consumed in one way or another, heavy metals or pesticides have no place in it. If you know something about growing flowers and want to protect the environment, you know: it can be done without them! Unfortunately, you cannot tell with the naked eye whether and how flowers have been treated. That is why you should demand transparency, for example in the form of certificates. . We provide these for all our flowers because we have nothing to hide. 😊

Not too high a CBD content

The CBD & THC content is a tricky matter. We have already explained here why we do not sell flowers with too high a CBD content. Of course, many shops advertise flowers with a CBD content of 20% or more because it attracts customers. Here, too, the same applies: demand transparency! Ask to see certificates and so avoid being ripped off. And, much more importantly: this way you can be sure that you are only buying legal products. CBD & THC are always in a ratio to each other. That is why the maximum natural CBD content is 6% in Germany and 9% in Austria.

We hope we have been able to help you in your search for good CBD flowers. You can of course find the best flowers here. 😉 If you have any further questions or comments, you can reach us at any time via our social media channels or by email at socialmedia@magu-cbd.com.

¹ Flowers are described as washed when there is an artificial attempt after harvest to change their cannabinoid or terpene content.
