What is CBN?

CBN is short for cannabinol and is one of many cannabinoids found in the hemp plant. Although cannabinol was discovered a long time ago, it never really gained much notoriety. In the past, it was even thought to be responsible for the feeling of intoxication. Today, however, we know that THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is crucial for an intoxicating cannabis effect.

How is it produced?

Unlike cannabidiol (CBD), cannabinol (CBN) is not a natural component of the hemp plant, but the result of an oxidation process of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). CBN is produced when THC is broken down by heat, air and/or light.

Is CBN intoxicating?

Unlike THC, CBN is not psychoactive, which means that it does not lead to intoxication. However, there are indications that CBN could be psychoactive in very large quantities.

Is CBN legal?

Since CBN is a byproduct of THC, the question of its legality arises. However, CBN is legal because it is not listed in the 1971 Convention on Psychotropic Substances.

This means that it is not classified as psychoactive and therefore not subject to the same legal restrictions as THC, which is classified as a controlled substance in many countries due to its psychoactive effects.
